UDAAN

Udaan is attempting to address the issue of early marriage in two gram panchayat areas of Joynagar I block of South 24 Parganas in West Bengal. Door to door awareness, conducting sessions in schools, rallies, using theater and comics as tools to create awareness on the issues of child marriage are some of the activities that we are carrying out on a regular basis.

Most of the students are first generation learner there, but teacher student ratio is nearly 1:120. This results in lack of attention leading to poor results and lack of interest towards education. It’s very common to see that at the age of 13 – 15 years, boys opt for/ forced to work while the girls are married early. We run two learning centers which have extended educational support to over hundred students with poor performance and actively engaged youths in the holistic development of the area. more….

COMICS ADDA

In our society if any youth talk against the functioning of existing system, his/ her voice / concern is often interpreted as a rebellion nature of the next generation. Often communication becomes big problem for the youth to raise the issues they are concern about and an alternative media is required which could convey the message without offending others. Comics are an interesting and creative means of expression. The most important aspect of it is that one can give strong message in a very light hearted and non –threatening manner.

Comics Adda tries to bring issues affecting youths the most using grassroots comics as an intervention tool. As grassroots comics is an easy and interesting tool to put forward one’s view, youth uses it to raise their voice on the issue they are concerned the most. more….

CAMPUS CHARCHA

Campus Charcha is the program for the college youths to engage them on the issues like gender discrimination, violence, active citizenship etc. using creative tools like poster exhibition, film screening and discussion, along with small activity to understand the issue better. The aim of the program is to start discussion, encourage debates on the social issues to build their perspective and ignite their thoughts on the same. Campus Charcha has been initiated in colleges like Bangabashi College of Commerce, Sanskrit College, Basanti Devi College.

Sopaan is financial and mentoring support program for the meritorious youths who want to continue their education by facing lots of problem in continuing their education because of poor economic condition.
