Why?
- Every year, an estimated 14 million girls aged under 18 are married worldwide.
- India has the highest number of child brides in the world.
- West Bengal is among the top 4 states in the country when it comes to child marriage. 55% marriages in West Bengal are of minors.
- A survey was conducted by Rupantaran Foundation showed that nearly 73% of household reported that the girls in their families are married before 18 years. Nearly, 50% of the families reported the age of marriage between 13 -1 5 years. Also, there was a huge knowledge gap amongst the community members.
